Fan Tan Alley

Today I’m sharing a couple of shots of Fan Tan Alley in Victoria, B.C. Located in Victoria’s Chinatown, it was once a gambling district with shops and opium dens. Although it widens in the middle, at its narrowest point it is only 35 inches (.9 metres) wide.

As we left the alley some young people were filming a movie.

  1. Love that top photo with the bright spots of colour and the vertical lines. The black coated pedestrian on the edge, looking forward really adds to the whole composition.

  2. PS. Kay, I, too, do NOT have an iphone, but I’m leaning . . .I’m leaning!! The monthly charges and data charge are holding me back. You will LOVE the Chicken Salsa soup; do not forget to top the bowls with shredded cheddar cheese and sour cream! Bon Apétit

  3. You caught me by surprise! These are such different photos than what you usually post. But I love ’em. Great sense of eerie mystery and with good reason given the background of the area and this narrow space!
