Gravity takes over

Part of this tree was still standing when you last saw it last week. A big branch from it that had fallen across the adjacent trail was removed on Friday but the reduced tree remained standing.

It was a different picture on Saturday morning. The remaining branches that made up the bulk of the tree splayed outward and fell in several directions, above.

This is the base of the tree. The golden colored wood is so rotted it has the weight and consistency of balsa wood and fluttered away on the breeze when we rubbed it.

And you may have noticed: there don’t appear to be any roots attached.

I’m very sorry to see this tree gone. At the same time it’s a blessing no one was injured as it went down.

  1. Hello,

It is hard to lose a favorite tree and just an empty space in it’s place. I am glad no one was hurt.
    Take care, enjoy your day!

  2. A massive very old oak tree shaded our yard and was a distinctive part of our neighborhood. It stood on the property of Mr Center who loved and spent much cash caring for it. After he died the family rented the house out. The tree was neglected. One morning it was down, crashing into Mr Center’s house. The arbor company that was dispatched to remove it had a team which included a man who had regularly cared for it for years. I found him crying beside the rotted trunk in the street as they were removing it. Soil had been allowed to build up and cover the base, rotting it out. A tree can represent many different things to each of us.

  3. Rotted out and fell down and nobody got hurt. What an ending, it can’t get better than that. Still it’s sad when a tree dies, no one could save this old tree.
