Fortunately, you are right, exfoliating is not that dramatic by people.
Which tree is that?
Ella, I’m not sure exactly what kind of tree this is. As close as I can tell it might be a paperbark Maple (Acer Griseum).
I can remember sunburns that made my skin look similar to that.
This reminds me of the paper bark trees I’ve seen except this bark looks a lot thicker.
Just imagine if we walked around looking like that! It makes for a great shot, Kay!
The peeling reminds me of birch trees. The Alaskan Natives use it for writing and other creative purposes.

Many of our Australian eucalyptus trees shed bark in this way in the autumn. Given that the forest is evergreen this is a sign of the change of season. Some of them are quite spectacular, shedding grey bark to reveal a red tree below which eventually turns grey as the year progresses..
