Bigleaf, big beauty

I thought this was a pretty scene. Then, of course, I wondered what I’d seen. What you’re seeing are leaves and blooms from our native bigleaf maple arrayed in front of an evergreen tree. Until I took this shot I hadn’t really noticed that the maples produced such beautiful and extravagant blossoms.

The seeds, leaves, and new sprouts from the bigleaf maples feed wildlife. And the flowers provide an early nectar source for bees and other insects.

  1. Not only beautiful but essential too Kay.. I love watching the birds and also the bees feed on tree fruit and flowers. Super shot ✨

  2. And such pollen – everything is covered with it. Cars are yellow, anything left on the deck has the yellow grainy pollen on it within minutes – and I sneeze almost constantly – but the trees are beautiful. I do hope that this rainy weekend calms the pollen down a little – we are surrounded by the Big Leaf Maples.
