Theme Day: One Color

The City Daily Photo theme today is “one color.” It immediately reminded me of our recent trip to Anza Borrego Desert State Park in southern California. Especially on a cool and lightly cloudy day a desert scene like the one above can be so dominated by the tan/grey hues of rocks and mountains as to seem monochromatic.

But what I love about the desert is its contrasts and beauty any way its viewed: the vastness of its landscape at a distance, or the contrasts seen up close. One color can quickly give way to vibrancy, full of varied life.

And closer still, especially in spring, color can be found.

  1. Lovely! I remember when I first moved to Phoenix with my parents back in the early 50s, how utterly surprised I was to find that the desert burst into bloom in the spring. The desert!

I’ve loved being on this trip with you, and thank you for sharing so many very cool photos.

  2. Several good choices that include nature; Mother Nature always looks best! May you have a joyful Easter or good Passover, or pleasant Sunday, which ever you celebrate!

  3. Lovely photos on a monochromatic theme. For the same reasons you state, I have come to love the arid vastness in eastern Washington. At first blush it appears to be boring and dull after the green of the west side. But I have come to appreciate the subtle nuances of color as the seasons change.

  4. I remember how surprised I was to see how beautiful Anza Borrego Desert State Park was on my own trip years ago in 1989. Your photos show it off well. We were there when it was almost too hot to be outside in the daytime, so I didn’t get a lot of photos. I didn’t have a digital camera yet then, either.
