Sterner stuff

Sterner stuff

This is a photo of a photo, this one behind glass in a display case in the Royal B.C. Museum. The subject is Delina Noel, taken in 1915 in British Columbia. Delina and her husband were well known prospectors and mine operators in the Bridge River area.

I suppose hunting bears might have been a matter of survival in the wilderness 99 years ago. But I’m duly impressed. Delina did it wearing a skirt.

  1. I had a former colleague who proudly hunted bear every year, with bow and arrow. I could t quite feel the same way about hunting animals in this day and age as I might have in Delina Noel’s day.
