Another field

My thoughts are with all Veteran’s today, those still with us and those who aren’t.   I really like seeing events that honor the day for no other reason than to honor the day-not a sale that is “in honor of Veterans” or all the ads in the paper, but actual events where people give thanks.  I didn’t see any listed in Sequim, nor did the paper seem to know of any, but there is a big one in Port Angeles.  If any locals see anything that was a true honor to the day, let me know.

  1. We had a quick breakfast at The Mariner this morning (the best breakfast place in town) and there was a big table of men, all Vietnam Vets I think, all telling their stories to each other..and relating stories of their Father’s WW2 stories. Coffee was on the house to them. The flags lining the boulevard in town are really nice today! And I have our flag (my precious flag from pre 9-11) flying out front! I really miss the flags…not enough folks fly the flag anymore. NO. I didn’t go to any sales!!!!

  2. I appreciate the honorable mention of this day.My father who passed away in 1999,
was a Korean war veteran and my thoughts and memories are of him of this day and his duty and sacrifice for this country as well the troops who are presently serving in Iraq and Afganistan.

  3. Sounds like you need to organize something for next year. If you do, I’d come. I’m not a Veteran – my father was (WWII), my mom served in the Civilian Signal Corps in D.C. during WWII, both my sons-in-law served (one in the Army -Ft. Lewis – now out after 2 tours in Iraq, the other active duty Navy – now in Jacksonville, FL but was stationed at Whidbey Island NAS)

  4. Pat, I saw the “free coffee for Veterans” sign when I drove by that restaurant, good of them to do that. Next time we have friends or family in town, maybe we’ll check that place out.
I know we have at least one regular to the site who has a son in active duty and I thought of her today.
MP and Larry, thanks for sharing your experiences too. I’m glad your son-in-laws made it back okay Larry.

  5. Shannon, go for Breakfast…(the best is the 2 2 2 2 french toast or pancakes, 2 sausage or bacon, 2 eggs…fills you up all day..8.49 I think. Today it was on special for 7.49..my husband loves their omelettes.) Lunches are fairly good , Dinners are weak.
