I considered this shot for yesterday’s Theme Day of “Red.” It’s a little church I shot from a bus window in the coastal town of Vic, Iceland last May.

Theme Day: Red
For today’s City Daily Photo Theme Day topic of “Red” I chose the historic Victoria B.C. Chinese Public School opened in 1909. It was built by the Chinese Consolidated Benevolent Association in the days when only Canadian born Chinese children could attend Victoria public schools. Poutine
I’d heard of poutine but it’s not a dish that’s found on a lot of menus in the western United States. And if I was going to indulge I figured I’d try it at a decent restaurant. For me, that’s Swan’s Pub in Victoria B.C.
French fries, cheese curds, brown gravy. We shared. We didn’t need dinner after we got home that evening.
The cathedral
We had seen Christ Church Cathedral in Victoria several times from moving buses. We learned that it was open to visitors and on our latest visit we took a walk to see it. It is a Canadian Anglican denomination.
On a warm day it was welcoming and peaceful. Here we’re facing the front of the church. The original structure was built in 1929 and the sanctuary was built in 1980. The sanctuary choir room has stained glass windows, seen here beyond the trio of clear glass windows.
At the back is a magnificent organ. Can you imagine how its music fills the church?
This is the first keyboard instrument used in the cathedral. It was built in 1862 and shipped around Cape Horn.

There is a labyrinth on the church grounds outside. We appreciated the opportunity to enjoy a peaceful walking meditation before we left.

We found this letter writing station at at tiny stationery store in Victoria B.C. Remember letters? You know, those paper missives you compose, stamp, and mail to friends and family? You can even make a greeting card.
The nice people at this store will even give some basic tech support. The first step is probably training in how much force a typewriter key requires compared to a computer keyboard. And don’t forget the carriage return.
