Sweet tooth?
If we need a pie for an event or have a visitor with a sweet tooth, we go to The Old Post Office Sweets and Gifts. They have lots of sweets to pick from, local syrups, jams and mixes, plus a little gift and card section.
Lavender Festival on the way
The Lavender Festival starts tomorrow. It’s the largest lavender event in North America. The photo above is Port Williams Lavender, one of the farms on the tour. Locals, are you ready?

The Arts and Crafts Fair
Despite a nippy day, the arts and crafts fair was a great place to run in to old friends. You could get your ears cleaned, buy a ticket on the Sunbonnet Sue Quilt Show Raffle Quilt, check out this year’s quilt show poster, designed once again by artist Carolyn Flint, or come all dolled up. Tomorrow I’ll have more photos for you to check out .
Irrigation Festival
Actually, activities start tomorrow. A “biggie” is Kids Day…and for sure you will want to check out the Crafts Fair. I am very impressed with the Irrigation Festival Website this year. Why not check it out? I saw several folks on there I recognized.
Mexican Independence Day
I LOVE September! It’s my birthday month…and at my age, I celebrate all year long. It’s time for school to start again…and as a teacher I can’t wait to go school supply shopping. And….it’s Mexican Independence Day! Last night our local Folkloric group performed the folk dances of Mexico for an hour and a half. They have been a group for 5 years, teaching the local youth the dances of the Mexican culture. Las Palomas catered the dinner and it was outstanding! I was particulary thrilled because my darling daughter was the one who announced the dances last night. At one point, she told the story in Spanish while my big boy then read in English.
