This is one of my “why I love it here” shots. It includes one of my favorite barns. It’s big, red, and well cared for. I love the great sense of space around it. I love the mountains beyond. And I love how the weather can add so much drama…yet ten minutes later be completely different, as it was.

Here’s a barn that’s in somewhat better condition than the one I showed you yesterday. That’s lavender you see in the foreground and I must say that it’s looking good around here these days. I’ll show you more lavender in the coming days.

I first posted the shot above in September 2012. By December 2012 more of the roof had collapsed and it wasn’t looking good.

For a long time, driving onto the freeway below the hilltop where this barn has stood, it was possible to see the remaining structure. A while back I realized I hadn’t seen it for a while. I drove to where I now know it stood and took the shot above. Not much left standing now. I’m truly sorry to see it go.

I showed you this barn last March while it was under construction. I thought I’d show you an “after” picture since it has inspired me to a hefty dose of barn envy. As you can see, it’s big (oh, think of all the stuff you can do in there!). It has a nice room facing out with a southern exposure (it’s probably a tack room, but I’m thinking studio/sitting & reading room/perhaps guest quarters).There are solar panels. And probably my favorite is what looks like a winged brass pig weather vein on top. I’ll have to go back in better weather and get a closer view of that.

I don’t think the horses have moved in yet. At this point my imagination has certainly beaten them to it.

This barn is located not far from the home in yesterday’s post. The area is called “Mains Farm.” I don’t know if this is the original farmstead but if it isn’t it could certainly date back to that period. Can any locals add details?
