Summer lunch

Summer offers a very sweet benefit: lunch outside. Under the grape arbor at Alder Wood Bistro is a perfect place to enjoy a warm day, good meal, and great friends.

The one problem is when someone else orders what I should have and didn’t. Salad envy.

The only consolation in a case like this is to order the Bistro’s signature “Chocolate Bliss” for desert. It will obliterate any second guessing about a perfect meal.

Bliss

I recently had lunch with friends at Alder Wood Bistro. It was one of the first perfect weather days we’ve had this summer and the outdoor patio was ideal. Lunch was great. Dessert was better still. Bliss, in fact. Chocolate bliss, one of their signature sweets.

Shaker lemon pie was also on the menu, also a winner.

The patio area is shaded by two enormous cherry trees and landscaped with edibles that are used in the kitchen. A wonderful spot for a good time with friends.

Trying to eat like a fisherman

Mussels

A relative came to town in October and we took her to Alder Wood Bistro for dinner. We couldn’t resist mussels, a favorite dish that we enjoyed in some memorable meals in California with our good friend Marie, who’d harvested them. “No one eats like fishermen,” I’ve been told. It’s hard to argue with that.
