Step away from the bush!

I glanced out the window just as one of the trio of deer that’s been calling our backyard home decided it was time for a snack. Our mock orange was just the ticket.

I went to the door and opened it in hope of saving a few branches of greenery. The deer agreed it was time to move on, perhaps to the remaining leaves on the flowering red currant. The shot I didn’t get was the deer, stopped in its tracks in front of me, giving me an unimaginably wide-eyed, innocent look. “Look, I’m just being a deer here, okay?”

  1. Oh, deer me! I’ve known people in Minnesota who had problems with deer eating everything in their yard but we don’t have that problem here. Cute shots. How could you get mad at such darling creatures?

  2. We have deer on our farm so I was drawn to your photos. Ours are within a large fenced field so no problem with them eating what they shouldn’t.

  3. So many people are frantic about deer munching on their foliage. Hey, folks, you chose to live there, didn’t you? The deer were there long before you were!

I loved your comments about the San Francisco twins. I googled them and found them fascinating. They were the Brown twins and one died this January at 86. Wouldn’t you have loved to sit down with them for a while? I would.

  4. We have a lot of deer in our yard – I try and be reasonable – this was their pathway long before we were here – so if I want to save something – I plant in pots on the deck – so far they haven’t figured to walk up the ramp to the deck – but I suppose the day will come. Lovely photos.

  5. so cute! all i see here are the exotic green birds.. but as soon as i want to take a picture, they fly away…
