Any Guesses?

As you travel east on Fir Street, past Sequim-Dungeness, there are some trees with interesting  wrappings.  I have no idea why or what they are for…I pondered keeping the squirrels or cats out of the tree…but I’m really not sure.  What do you think?

  1. I’m so happy to see you back to the blogs! Hope your arm is ok now and not too painful, these injuries take time to be totally fixed…
I have no idea about these strange tubes around the trees but I’m sure all the cats in my neighborhood would laugh seeing them! Maybe the cats in this area are very small ones?;-)

  2. Good to see you back, Norma. My time as a blogger goes back to the first part of 2005 when I began with a blog on “ModBlog” which was fine but didn’t last. So from 2005 until now in 2008, I think I have only come across two people whose name is “Norma” and that is the same name as my sister. Anyway. Welcome back into the fold.

If you have horses or deer in the area, those collars are probably there to prevent animals like horses or deer or larger other animals from gnawing on the bark by reaching over the fence with their head. Horses will kill trees by chewing the bark off on some trees. Deer and other larger animals will eat bark when nothing else is available in the winter in deep snow times.

Not positive about this, Norma, but that is my guess.
