A Christmas Moon sans Santa

Rarely do I venture out to photograph after dark, but I make exceptions while vacationing and seeing things in a different light.

And this particular night was Christmas Eve, spent in St. Augustine, Florida several years ago, when just about everyone is outdoors shooting pictures of the moon while waiting for Santa to fly by with Rudolf leading the way (not!).

But to my disappointment, Santa didn’t show, which didn’t make me question whether he really exists, but only if Rudolf had made a wrong turn and delivered my new lens to someone else on the planet!

P.S. I know my Santa ordered it since I found the Amazon receipt!

Man in the Moon?

A Bald Eagle Makes a Statement in Front of the Moon

Our national symbol is often seen in many locations but until I discovered this one posing in front of the moon, did I really appreciate it as such.

Although not draped in the flag or singing the national anthem, his presence in this spot, in front of where mankind still chooses to travel, speaks to me about the importance of preserving nature here on earth as well as reaching for the stars.

Moonset over the Three Sisters

I got up three days in a row to try to capture this full (or nearly) moonset over the mountains in central OR. The clouds and especially the smoke were not cooperating. But I finally achieved the shot I was hoping for.
