Cruise Ship Season…

Yep, it’s that time again, cruise ship season.

If you’re not on one, or dreaming of taking one, you may be seeing the ships pass by headed to Alaska via the Strait of Juan De Fuca, just as I did here.

Last summer, this Holland America edition served as a nice background for an airborne kiteboarder at Cline Spit, and also as a spark to my imagination.

While photographing him, I envisioned him being carried by a strong wind to the deck of the ship where he would make a grand entrance on the dance floor, or splash down in the pool, to the dismay of the sunbathers, the crew, and himself.

But my vision was short-lived when the wind tipped him from side to side and quickly deposited him back in the water as it had done many times before.

And as the ship sailed away, I was a little saddened that it left without the boarder, but most importantly, without me!

Victoria or Bust!

Often, there’s no other city I’d rather visit than Victoria, BC, especially via the Coho Ferry, and many friends feel the same.

Visiting Victoria is like a quick and inexpensive trip to Europe, and doable in the span of 8 hours, if one returns on the same day.

The trip itself is noteworthy in that one may see whales, orcas/dolphins, and sea lions, as well as seabirds, mega yachts and cruise ships along the way. And although the weather isn’t always pristine, the view of the city certainly is!

On this particular visit, I was fortunate enough to experience flowering trees with Parliament in the distance, tulips at the Empress Hotel, and the welcoming smiles of our neighbors to the north.

May we always feel the same about this fascinating and fabulous city and may we always be welcome!

Not Exactly Sequim…

We’re back from the desert and before I say more, I want to thank both Lewis Bennett and Ardythe Wyndt for filling in for me last week. It helped to make our stay in Phoenix much more enjoyable, and I know you readers appreciated seeing their work.

With that said…it was quite a week, and I came home with hundreds of images from our trips to two botanical gardens (I was craving a “green” fix from the moment we stepped off the plane) and Butterfly World in Scottsdale. I hope you’ll enjoy sharing in our adventures in the week ahead. If anything, this trip made me appreciate the Pacific Northwest and Sequim much more than I ever envisioned!

On the Road Again!

Although not my car, I can well relate to the owner and maybe you can too. While I’m able, I want to see it all and do it all…and therefore, I’m on the road again, this time to Phoenix, returning in about a week.

In the meantime, beginning tomorrow, a number of friends and fellow photographers have offered to provide photos in my absence and I hope you’ll not only enjoy their work, but celebrate it by providing feedback, if at all possible.
