An introduction to Sequim, WA and the beautiful Olympic Peninsula

Just down the road a piece is one of my favorite places to go just about any time of the year. The sunsets here can be spectacular. When my neighbor sent me a wonderful picture she took last weekend, I drug out the “slip over your shoes” spiky things to help me keep from slipping and falling and took a walk. Over the next few days I will offer you some delightful sights of a small part of the lovely “Dungeness Wildlife Refuge”.

There are several ponds along Kitchen-Dick Road on the way to the wildlife refuge. It’s not uncommon to drive by and see different varieties of waterfowl swimming. For the last couple of days, the ducks should have had ice skates!

This beauty did not come down in the last storm. It has been laying on it’s side for a couple of months, but it represents what has happened all over our county. The newpaper last Thursday that those who use wood for heat, could apply to cut up to 6 cords of wood free from designated areas in Clallam and Jefferson Country.

…until you get outside and have to drive on a sheet of ice. Hopefully it will warm up soon and we can enjoy looking at all that snow in the mountains.

With the cost of health care today, our community is very fortunate to have doctors and nurses who volunteer their time to staff this free health clinic. Although it is only open for a short period of time, it plays a very important role in providing medical assistance for those who can not afford to pay. The building is furnished rent free by a local church and several other churches provide monitary assistance for electricity, supplies, etc.

Last Saturday I was invited to attend a “Quinceanera” for a local young lady. This is a coming of age ceremony for 15 year old Hispanic girls. The ceremony itself is filled with traditions and is often part of a religious service. The bouquet is among the gifts given. The link I included above is connected to a commercial enterprise, but the information given is very accurate to those celebrations I have been privileged to attend. I would invite you to check out this information.

Between Cays and Towne Road on Old Highway 101, is a relatively new Church. I drive this road often, and just happen to catch the moon in the right place.
