Here’s another winner in the Peninsula Daily News Best of the Peninsula voting: Papa Murphy’s Pizza on West Washington. Honors were shared with the Papa Murphy’s in Port Angeles. And now that Congress has voted that pizza is a vegetable, you can enjoy these and still feel virtuous!

What do you like on your pizza? Do you like standard toppings or more of the “anything goes” varieties?

Gone

A few months ago we bought paint here. It was Peninsula Paints. I was surprised and disappointed to discover it’s now gone. The people here were nice. The sign on the door, like so many, refers to the tough economy. There are still two Peninsula Paint stores, in Port Angeles and Port Townsend.

Duck feed lot

I pulled into a parking lot recently only to find it full of ducks, mallards, who were clearly making themselves at home. It was a mystery until I pulled back and looked a little further.

Then I remembered that I’ve seen pans of food left near Del’s Feed and noticed a well-picked-over spot on the pavement where lunch had been.

Here’s another voting category in the Peninsula Daily News poll: Best jewelry. Cole’s Jeweler’s won this year.

It is that time of the year when gentlemen sometimes look for that special something for ladies who like little velvet boxes and glittery things. Cole’s Jewelers is on East Washington Street. You should be able to recognize it by the hand and nose prints I’ve left on the front window.

Here’s another Sequim selection from the Peninsula Daily News voting on “Best of the Peninsula.” JC Penney was voted best in the “clothing” category.

They must have known I was coming, because they moved a selection of their clothes out front so you could get a view of what’s on offer. Sorry the price tags are so hard to read.

There are places to buy clothing here and there on the Olympic Peninsula, but if you’re a serious clotheshorse the nearest racetrack is the mall in Silverdale, or you’ll want a trip to Seattle.

Visitor Center

If you drive into Sequim from the east one of the first stops newcomers should make is at this building. It’s at the end of town on East Washington. The Chamber of Commerce hosts a visitor center here where Chamber members may display literature. There are free visitor guides, maps, and brochures for accommodations, events, and places of interest. It’s a useful place to find out what’s happening in Sequim and is staffed by volunteers who can get you pointed in the right direction.

Back on Washington Street, heading west, is another coffee spot, White Cup. The same red car is crashing through the west side of the roof. I’m guessing there were one too many double espressos involved. How many coffee spots in Sequim are we up to now?
