We saw this eagle in a fresh cut field last night. I hadn’t seen coloring like this before.

Really unusual? Maybe someone who is an expert will tell us. The coloration is that of a young red-tailed hawk but the head is a Bald Eagle..isn’t it?(I used my bird book, Birds of the Puget Sound).

Exciting pictures! I’m no expert, but I do know that immature bald eagles have different coloring and they don’t have the white head and tail yet.

I think it’s a young bald eagle. They don’t get their white heads for a while.

Your comment This is an young Osprey, possibly female. They are of the Eagle family as are the Bald Eagle and Golden Eagle. A beautiful bird found more often in NE WA around lakes and streams fishing. They build large stick nests in the tops of trees.
