I’m not sure if I more envious of the lens he has on his camera, or the fact he can squat down. Ah, these old bones. This is Phil Mesibov, a local professional photographer, shooting photos at Jazz in the Alley.

When I was crusising around last week, I spotted this color co ordinated flower planting in the BOA sign planter…except the blue flowers are purple. Now the Burpee seed and plant company lists blue petunias…maybe the the planting folks just didn’t have time to order them…or figured in Sequim they would be forgiven.
It’s all over but the shouting. I will have to read the Peninsula Daily News to find out if “purple turned the town green”, but I do know that everyone who left the quilt show this afternoon has a smile on their face. One of my favorite parts is what is affectionally called “the quilt turning”. Antique quilts that belong to club members and community members are held up for viewing by two quilters while the history of the quilt is read to the audience. The stories that go with these quilts are wonderful. The title of this year’s quilt turning was “Artists in Aprons”…and I couldn’t agree more. Many of these quilts are priceless. I thank those in the community who shared their treasures for those in attendance to see.
And how do you decided what quilt to vote for? Ah, a difficult task..but you will see those who attend with their ballot in hand taking the task very serious. I worked the show…and will again today. It was wonderful to see old friends and talk with new ones…several who told us they had come for the lavender and “found” us. They weren’t disappointed. If you are local, I hope to run in to you today at the show. The raffle for the quilt will take place at 4:00 p.m. I wonder if this time will be my lucky year?
A note on the second thumbnail…this year’s challenge was “Floral Fantasy”. The note accompanying the photo states, “At the time of the catnip harvest, the pussy willow gets touchy.” Don’t miss the dogwood flowers on this quilt.
I actually cut some of my lavender yesterday. There are lots of things to do in Sequim this weekend. One of my quilting buddies, who likes music almost as much as I do, went with me to listen to some of the Jazz in the Alley venues last night. We were sitting there enjoying a glass of vino, when Alice and husband, happened to sit down next to us. After introductions were made, Alice proceeded to ask me questions about my recent trip and my shoulder surgery. Turns out she stops in each day to see what we are featuring on Sequim Wa Daily Photo. It was very nice visiting with her. She said she recognized me from the photo on the blog…and I was hoping it was my camera! (Ha, ha)
Back to Jazz in the Alley…if you are local, it’s a wonderful treat and will be going on again to night. There is all kind of food at the venues. The wine isn’t bad and the music is excellent. Maybe I’ll meet you there too!
Today I’m off to the quilt show…now that is something not to be missed.
