July Theme Day…Empty

empty.jpg

The theme for CDP this month is empty.  I always feel a bit empty when I see buildings sitting unused.  This is the original Costco building and parking lot situated on 101 and Hooker Road.  It has been empty for  almost 5 years.  It has been reported that the local power company, PUD, has purchased the property.  Yet, it still sits empty.  Perhaps soon.  To view how the rest of the CDP community interprets empty, Click here to view thumbnails for all participants“.

  1. Did Costco outgrow the building? Most of the empty big box buildings here are closed down grocery stores. Getting put out of business by Wal-Mart and Costco.

  2. An empty big box .. most likely an even bigger box across the street (assuming Costco stayed close to the original location) .. hopefully PUD will use the property rather than let it sit.

  3. Norma, The new Costco opened August of 2006, this old location closed almost the same week as that….it has only been vacant 3 years this August. I really liked that old location….my husband and I celebrated purchasing our new home back in August of 2005 with HOT DOGS from Costco!!(we were in our RV). Isn’t the PUD going to move in here?

  4. I wonder how many out-of-town people driving through still think it’s an operating Costco because they notice the look?
We have been here 5 years this month and we used to go to the old one for a while after moving here. I liked the location of the old one better than the new one. You could just buzz over there without having to go into town.

  5. All of the posts today that show empty buildings and spaces that are normally teeming with people and activity makes me feel rather creepy. It’s not that I don’t like the photos, it just seems like a giant catastrophe has visited earth.
