I was saddened when I saw the sign Rare Plants of Sequim is not opening the shop this year.  It was truly a great nursery, almost in the heart of Sequim.  But I did check out their website and was delighted!  Give it a look…I think it is well put together, the information is great, and the pictures are almost as good as seeing the plant in person.  I also discovered Mr. Perry’s garden blog.  It’s phenomenal, funny, and informative too.

In anticipation of even more cold weather, Sunny Farms had covers for their primroses.  So far mine are still hanging in.

Thanks to all those who sent good wishes to my Granddaughter on her birthday.  I don’t know who had more fun.  It was a perfect day.

Where have the years gone?  How did she get to be five?  Surely it was only yesterday when her dad called to tell me they were on their way to the hospital!  She is bright, beautiful, curious about the world, loves to read books, can wrap her daddy…and her grandma around her finger…and the  bane of my Big Boy’s existance.  Baby Girl and and I are going to lunch today…just us.  I appreciate my children who allow and encourage this bond.

There is a really nice car wash across from Sunny Farms that is up for sale.  I stopped by Monday to get some of the snowy sludge off.  I commented to the young man about the sale and he indicated there were several prospects.  (good to hear)

Sewing Vacumn and Sewing Center, aka the Bernina shop, aka “Karen’s”, has long been a fixture in Sequim.  In the last year or two Karen has added a line of fabrics.  It is a pleasure to visit her shop and peruse the different shades, tones, and patterns.  Her batiks are always a favorite and you can never go wrong with a Hoffman.  Notice I didn’t feature a picture of a sewing machine or a vacumn…but they do have them!   And they have Don, the repairman.  Don not only repairs sewing machines and vacumns, he also fixed the switch on my hot wax machine.    When I visit a quilt shop, it’s like an artist’s date.   Click on the thumbnails to see a close up of some of the batiks.

Sequim has a new radio station, KQSM!  I had a devil of time finding the location, (next to In Graphic Detail) but I’ve been listening to their music  for quite awhile.  I stopped in today and talked with Susie, the volunteer coordinator and DJ four times a week.  She shared with me how the play list was developed, a little bit about the audience they have acquired by streaming on the internet, and the workings of an “all volunteer” radio station.  I love the music!  Their playlist includes songs from the 40′s through the Clinton era.  A lot of the songs remind me of when we were kids and our parents took us with them to the American Legion dances in Keyes, Oklahoma.  Some of the songs I used to dance to…and I amaze myself sometime with how many of the words I remember.  I would encourage you to tune in if you are local (91.5 fm) or click on the link above and listen to them on the internet.  It’s well worth your time!
