food-drive.jpgWhen I first saw this sign, I was surprised/shocked.  Then I remembered that with the current economic situation, food banks are hurting.  Many folks are having a hard time buying groceries for their own families, much less donating to those in need.  However, there were a lot of people who did visit the cemetery last weekend.  I guess this was as good a place as any to solicit donations.

field.jpgOn Old Olympic, just past Carlsborg Road, as it turns into Cays Road, you will find paved roads and electrical boxes running through what used to be farmland.  A year or two ago, it was subdivided and lots went up for sale.  With the down turn in the housing market, nothing sold…so they planted hay again. Looks like a smart move to me!

saddle.jpg When I wrote my previous posts about the Dungeness Valley Creamery, I neglected to post this picture of the saddle sitting on the front porch.  I can imagine there has been more than one young cowboy/girl that has sat on this saddle waiting for mom or dad to finish shopping.

second-story.jpgNeed more room?  Want to add on?  What about a second story?  When this homeowner decided to add a second story, they jacked the first floor up, and are building on the bottom.  It has been fun driving by and watching the progress.  For the locals, it’s located on Old Olympic Highway, heading east,  as you round the curve on the right hand side.

riders.jpgJust down the road apiece is Robin Hill Farm, a lovely park where you can ride your horse, bike, or use your feet.  These lovely ladies paused long enough to allow me to take their picture.     A previous post is located here.

stone.jpgToday in the United States we honor U.S. men and women who perished while in military service to their country.  In many areas, all those who served in the military have their graves decorated with a flag.  I have chosen to feature the grave of my friend Tom Wells.  I recently wrote about Tom and his wife Lay in a recent post.  For those readers who live here, you will know the significance of the engraving on the stone.  I would like to thank Howard Balensiefen and the Boy Scout troop in Keyes, Oklahoma, who I know will make sure there is a flag on my dad’s grave today.  It used to be my daddy’s job to make sure every veteran’s grave was decorated with a flag in the Willowbar Cemetary.  I am so very grateful there is someone carrying on this tradition.

earlyheadstart.jpg In the Sequim Community School is an important program for our community.   Early Head Start allows parents to work and know that their child is being well educated in a safe environment.  Administered by Olycap, the program is an important asset to our community.
