Our snowpack is only about 20% of normal; last year it was above average. It’s still early. Snow was predicted today, possibly down to sea level. Then the prediction changed. We’ll see.

Everyday treat
One of the reasons I love living here is this: Everyday life is surrounded by a beautiful view. This was taken from the parking lot at our veterinarian’s office.
Walking to work
Pond. Ducks. What’s wrong with this picture? Look at the pink webbed feet walking across the top of the pond. Our temperatures haven’t been much above freezing for several days. Most standing water has a good skim of ice across the top. For us that’s cold. And no. I wouldn’t trade with those of you who have it really cold!
A barn two ways
I didn’t like the wires in this shot and I didn’t want to crop the tree tops. But I loved the warm light. So here it is with “wire pollution.”
I moved in closer to sidestep the wires and the light had changed, just like that. And here it is, a cleaner shot and so-so light. It’s not the first time a shot of his barn has eluded me.
Promise of spring
It’s a measure of the drab of winter that the mere sight of cattails can send me bumping down a rutted road in pursuit of a better view.
Alternative Superbowl
Last Saturday our friend Burtt (No. 10) competed in a Special Olympics basketball tournament in Bremerton. This competition is becoming an annual tradition for us. Burtt’s dad and his team coach, David, was a good friend in college and after many years that have taken us in different directions it’s good to be living in the same region again. That’s David’s back in the middle left side of the collage. His shirt reads: “Work for a cause – Not for applause – Live life to express – Not to impress.”
Superbowl Fever…nope…CHAMPS!!
For anyone not a sports fans living in the U.S., today is the Superbowl football tournament, the end-of-season blowout game for the two top teams. This year the Seattle Seahawks are playing and local fans, known as the “12th man” (acknowledging the value of fans as part of the team), are seriously excited. This collage is a mini-sampling of team support on the Olympic Peninsula. My friend Sylvia, whose hand graces the lower right corner above, proudly sports a Hawks manicure and shared her selfie with me. Quoting Sylvia and most anyone around here: “Go Hawks!”
