A Saturday phoenix

A fire last November at the Blue Mountain Recycling Center shut down operations. A temporary office was parked where vehicles previously backed up to offload trash and recycling operations were only available on Saturdays. Update: The transfer station will resume it normal schedule on Saturday, May 24, 2014. It will be open on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The recycling operations during the reduced hours were much the same as before the closure, including the center bin for cardboard.

Happy Valentine’s Day

This heart is embedded in a trail I walk regularly. On Valentine’s Day I wish that you, too, find a path with heart, and with love.

Lap dog

You’re a big Labrador Retriever. Really big. You love to cuddle. You can’t get onto the furniture. So what do you do when you want a little loving? Drape yourself over your person when he’s on the floor doing his daily exercises. Sure you slide off. But you’ll still have a blissful moment of Quality Time.

Oldie but goodie

I liked the look of this old tractor. Parked next to a recently worked field, a little rust here and there, but apparently still in good working order.

Local history

I’m a Lincoln fan so this marker on a wall in Port Angeles caught my eye. I guess at least the Daughters of the American Revolution found the event noteworthy.

Just another stunning view

There are a lot of beautiful homes around here and most have gorgeous views. I found myself admiring the setting for this one. But I’m also a sucker for covered porches so this one obviously proved irresistible.

Using the wind

This windmill dots the landscape almost like a giant daisy. Aside from wind farms filled with turbines that generate energy, the old fashioned windmill like the one above seems much less common these days. At one time in the U.S. the power of the wind generated energy to pump water and windmills were not uncommon on farms or ranches.
