Wing study

Female mallards generally look drab when compared to the flashing bright colors on the males. But I’ve always admired this little bright wing patch on the ladies. Understated. Elegant. Coco Chanel might approve.

  1. Very nice, technically it’s called the speculum.

(And a reply: yes, the 100-600 is very practical for hand-holding. One of my brothers uses that Tamron lens hand-held with very credible results. Though like anything else, it requires practice.
And more replies: yes, I collect, and yes, all that I’m posting will be my ceramics, found in my home.)

  2. That is really a nice patch of blue. Nice closeup Kay. I’m sure you’re enjoying the new lens. I can’t get that close but enjoy seeing others that can.

  3. Oh ho! You are putting that “bazooka” to good use. This is a fine shot, great color and nice and sharp. I don’t think I’ve paid much attention to a female mallard’s backside, but I’ll take a closer look the next time I see one. I just need that bazooka! šŸ™‚
