Soggy

Wheeler Park

We’ve had a lot of rain lately. And there’s no better rain gauge than the Dungeness River. It’s running high, very fast, and very muddy.

The shot above is of Mary Luke Wheeler County Park on Ward Road, a sweet spot along the river. The Dungeness has come up to the parking lot. The river bank is completely submerged. I posted a shot of the river taken here last month. The spot where I stood is underwater.

Big muddy 1

During summer the Dungeness water level drops and it’s usually a clear blue. Right now we’re in the chocolate milk color spectrum.

Trees are submerged to well inland of the typical water’s edge and you can see the current whipping around their trunks.

  1. Yikes! I’ve been reading about your rain in the news. I saw where a couple of people died because of the storms. Not good. Please stay safe!

  2. Rivers over on this side are running high and over their banks too. I know we need rain – but not this much – not this fast. It is pouring right now – beating against the sky lights – the wind whipping the rain against the windows. I always wonder if you are getting as much rain as we are – as you are in the rain shadow – but it seems you are getting more than usual this year. It is so dark out right now – not nearly late enough for it to be this dark. I like a good cozy, rainy day – but let’s have some rain-free days for a change. The photos are great – they really show the force of the water.

  3. That does look like dangerous conditions.

Regarding your comment at my blog the other day, the balloon incendiaries the Japanese sent up during the War are mentioned in the Museum, including a map of how far into North America they penetrated, as well as a full sized version of the bombs themselves suspended overhead. I’ll photograph it again the next time I’m there- I think I featured it in the blog a couple of years back.
