The clouds before sunset last night were pretty spectacular. I may not have caught them all here but there were cirrus, altocumulus, and cumulus clouds stretching across the entire horizon. Lest you think I actually know this stuff, I consulted a book on clouds and storms, which describes a scene like this as “mixed skies.” They’re caused by a mixture of wind speed and direction, temperature, and moisture content at various layers in the sky.

That’s gorgeous! Must be a good sign for the weekend.
Awesome! Mother Nature knows how to show off.
Super shot! We see this kind of thing down in the Keys sometimes, not so much here in central Florida. Have a great weekend!
I am impress not only with the photo but also with the info you shared with us!
Stunning – we saw the clouds coming in last night too – looks like we might be in for a rainy weekend – but i wanted the sunshine to stay around. And I hear that the mountains might get snow and we can always use that.
Wow!
Glorious!
This is quite a sky. Lots of interest up there.
